The Lemma Apple Lenten Luncheon Series is a long-standing meaningful tradition. MaryAnn Whitmore experienced a similar program at another church and brought the idea to Madison UMC. The evangelism committee consisting of Virginia Steele, MaryAnn Whitmore, Jo Anne Shelton, Carl Lauren, Charles Scott & Max Webb supported the idea. At the very first Lenten lunch in 1976, Jo Anne Shelton served vegetable soup and grilled cheese sandwiches to the 12 that attended. Over the years, the series grew in attendance each year! The Lenten Luncheon Series continues through the gracious support of the Lemma Apple Foundation.
